The first and only FDA-approved nasal naloxone available without a prescription, NARCAN reverses the effects of a known or suspected opioid overdose in minutes. Each box contains 2 single-dose nasal spray devices, ready to use with no assembly and no training required — a critical addition to any workplace, public facility, or emergency response kit.

A Life-Saving Medication, Ready When It’s Needed Most

Opioid overdose can happen anywhere — in a workplace, a public restroom, a parking lot — and it can happen to someone using prescribed medication, not just illicit drugs. NARCAN Nasal Spray gives anyone nearby, trained or not, the ability to respond immediately. As an opioid antagonist, naloxone works by rapidly binding to opioid receptors in the brain, reversing the slowed or stopped breathing that makes opioid overdose fatal.

FDA-Approved for Use Without a Prescription

NARCAN Nasal Spray was the first naloxone product ever approved by the FDA for over-the-counter, nonprescription use — a milestone specifically intended to make this life-saving medication as accessible as possible in the places overdoses actually happen. No prescription, medical training, or special certification is required to purchase, stock, or administer it.

Simple Enough for Anyone to Use

Each package contains 2 single-dose nasal spray devices, each delivering a single 4mg dose. The three-step process is designed to be usable under stress by someone with no medical background:

  1. CHECK — Look for signs of overdose: the person won’t wake up, is very sleepy, or isn’t breathing well. Yell “Wake up!” and shake the person gently.
  2. GIVE — Hold the device with your thumb on the plunger, insert the nozzle into either nostril, and press firmly to deliver the dose.
  3. CALL — Call 911 immediately, even if the person responds to the first dose.

NARCAN is safe to use even if opioids turn out not to be present, meaning a responder never needs to be certain before acting.

What Happens After Administration

When naloxone reverses an overdose, the person may experience withdrawal-like symptoms upon waking — shaking, sweating, nausea, or agitation. This is an expected part of the medication working, not a sign of a problem.
